CRGT employs apprentices and trainees in broad range of industries. All of our positions involve full time employment plus on and off the job training (part-time employment is sometimes available).
Apprenticeships & Traineeships that CRGT offer are available to anyone of working age and do not require any entry qualifications. You can be a school-leaver, re-entering the workforce or wishing to change careers.
An Apprenticeship or Traineeship with Cairns Region Group Training can offer you:
- a great way to get a head start in a chosen career
- the ability start straight from school into full time work
- paid work and structured training that can be on-the-job, off-the-job or a combination of both
- ‘competency based’ which means you may be able to complete your training faster if you reach the required skills level

WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP ?
An apprenticeship is a great way to kick start your career! If you are interested in obtaining a Nationally Recognised Qualification, then CRGT can help you!
For the past 23 years, Cairns Region Group Training has offered apprenticeships in a variety of trade areas. Most apprenticeships have a nominal time duration of 48 months, you can enjoy working in the trade of your choice, while at the same time, earning money obtaining valuable skills and experience within the workforce.
The wide range of apprenticeships that CRGT offers is not just for school leavers, we also have positions available for mature age applicants who may be looking to re-enter the workforce or make a fresh start at a new career.
Apprenticeships can be either school based, part-time or full time and combine practical work with structured training to allow you to achieve a Nationally Recognised Qualification.
Some of the more common apprenticeships that are available include:
- Cookery
- Pastry cooking
- Motor Mechanic
- Boilermaking
- Diesel Fitting
- Fitting & Turning
- Construction – carpentry, bricklaying, plastering

CRGT have qualified Employment Co-ordinators that are dedicated to seeing you through your apprenticeship every step of the way. They regularly visit apprentices in the workplace to ensure that everything is going smoothly and answer any questions you might have.

WHAT IS A TRAINEESHIP ?
Traineeships are like “mini” apprenticeships with suggested timeframes of normally up to 12 months. Some traineeships have a term of 36 months. Traineeships are not just for school leavers, we also have vacancies suitable for mature aged applicants.
Traineeships can be either school based, part-time or full time and combine practical work with structured training to allow you to achieve a Nationally Recognised Qualification.
Some of the more common traineeships that are available include:
- Office Administration
- Horticulture
- Asset Maintenance (Cleaning)
- Hospitality
- Retail
- Warehousing
WHY BE A TRAINEE THROUGH CRGT?
Traineeships are a great way for jobseekers to get qualified and get paid experience in an area of interest. They are also a great way for employers to train staff in their industry.
Traineeships can be either school based, part-time or full time and combine practical work with structured training to allow you to achieve a Nationally Recognised Qualification.
A Traineeship enables you to learn the latest knowledge and skills, earn while you learn, attend a formal training organization and is a great start to your future career.
Once you have completed your traineeship, you will have a qualification and the skills to start your career and really go places !

Applying for an Apprenticeship or Traineeship with CRGT is an easy 3 step process.
STEP 1.
Find a vacancy that you are interested in applying for on our Current Vacancy Page.
STEP 2.
Click on the APPLY NOW link at the bottom of the page.
STEP 3.
Complete the form and either attached your completed resume or complete the online resume builder and then press SUBMIT.
The staff at CRGT will then receive your information and contact you directly to discuss your application further.

TIPS FOR GETTING THE APPRENTICESHIP OR TRAINEESHIP THAT YOU WANT
YOUR RESUME
Your resume is the employer’s first introduction to you. The layout and content are the two main points to remember when writing your resume. It should be easy to read and contain all the information that an employer will want to know about you and your work or school experiences.
Ensure that your resume contains the following information :
- Your contact details such as your name , address and phone/email information.
- Your birth date: When applying for an Apprenticeship or Traineeship, your age will determine your rate of pay and may be required by the employer for that reason. If you are comfortable to put your date of birth on your resume, then please go ahead.
- School subjects and results: If you are a recent school leaver your school subjects and results are useful to the employer to confirm your educational background.
- Training and Higher Education: Include details of all other courses or training that you have completed regardless of the industry.
- Professional History/Work Experience: detail your employment history or work experience in order from most recent backwards. Include: Job Title, Employer, Start and Finish Dates and a Brief Description of your duties
- Referees: List at least 1 referee, stating the persons full name, position, business name and contact phone number. Ensure that your referee has given you permission to use their details.
INTERVIEW TIPS
WHAT TO TAKE
Arrive with the most recent copy of your resume in a folder with any extra information such as school reports, certificates or written references.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT
- Arrive appropriately groomed. Ideally, closed in shoes and the best clothes that you have. Dress conservatively & consider your jewellery, make-up & hair.
- Arrive 10 minutes early for your interview.
- Remember your interview techniques.
- Use appropriate language – swearing will not be tolerated.
- Shake hands with the interviewer and make eye contact during the interview.
- Be aware of your body language, don't forget to smile !
- Be positive and enthusiastic about obtaining the position.
- Be prepared to talk about your career plan. For example, where do you want this job to take you ?
- Turn off your mobile telephone.
YOUR KNOWLEDGE
- Understand the role you are applying for and also the company. An apprenticeship or traineeship requires dedication and you must be willing to commit to the job for up to 4 years.
- Show interest in the position, and be prepared to ask questions as well. You could make a list of questions you would like to ask, take it with you to your interview.
