1. Overview
The purpose of this policy is to ensure CRGAL meets its obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 and ensures that all employees and clients are aware of the process for managing our clients, customers of clients, contractors & others personal information.
Due to an exemption in the Privacy Act, the National Privacy Principles do not apply to any employee record. As a result this policy does not apply to CRGAL's treatment of an employee record where the treatment is directly related to a current or former employment relationship between CRGAL and the individual.
The provision of the information is voluntary, but if this information is not provided, Cairns Region Group Training or the Retail Skills Centre may be unable to process your employment application or enquiry.
2. Applicable Legislation
CRGT is bound by the National Privacy Principles (NPPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) ('Privacy Act').

Apprentice/Trainee - is a person who has entered into a training contract with CRGAL.
Employee - is a person employed by CRGAL on a fulltime, permanent part time, casual or contract basis.
4. Why does CRGAL collect personal information?
CRGAL collects personal information in order to conduct our business, to provide and market our products and services and to meet our legal obligations.

Names, addresses, contact details, date of birth, salary, bank and credit card details and other information which assists us in providing our services. In most cases, if the personal information we request is not provided, we may not be able to supply our services

CRGAL also collects personal information from our website through emails. We also use third parties to analyse traffic at our website, which may involve the use of "cookies". Information collected through such analysis is anonymous.

CRGAL may only use and disclose our client's personal information for the primary purpose for which it is collected, for reasonably expected secondary purposes which are related to the primary purpose and in other circumstances authorised by the Privacy Act.

10. Employee Privacy Authority Form
An Employee Privacy Authority Form is available to all employees and apprentices/trainees employed by CRGAL. This form authorises CRGAL to give nominated access (details regarding the employees employment with CRGAL) to a person and/or party.
11. Sensitive Information
Some personal information we collect is 'sensitive information'. Sensitive information includes information relating to a person's racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religion, trade union or other professional or trade association membership, sexual preferences, criminal record; and health information.
Sensitive information must only be used and disclosed only for the purpose for which it was provided or a directly related secondary purpose, unless our customer agrees otherwise, or where certain other limited circumstances apply (eg where required by law)
12. Management of Personal Information
The NPP's require us to take reasonable steps to protect the security of personal information. CRGT employees are required to respect the confidentiality of personal information and the privacy of individuals.
CRGT takes steps to protect personal information held from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
Where we no longer require our client's personal information for a permitted purpose under the NPP's, we will take reasonable steps to delete, de-identify or destroy it.
13. How do we keep personal information accurate and up-to-date?
CRGAL will endeavour to ensure that our clients personal information is accurate, complete and up to date. We encourage our customers to contact us in order to update any personal information we hold about them. Our contact details are set out below.
14. Can our customers gain access to their personal information?
Subject to the exceptions set out in the Privacy Act, client's may gain personal information which CRGAL holds about them by contacting us.
We will require verification of identify and what specific information is required. A fee may be charged for providing access. We will advise our client's of this fee in advance.
However, in the case of personal information we collect from our clients for the purposes of providing our services to those clients, access to that personal information will usually be the responsibility of the relevant client.

This policy will be reviewed from time to time to take account of new laws and technology, changes to our operations and practices and the changing business environment.
